ABOUT US
Welcome to Cox Bee Company where the gentle hum of bees meets a remarkable story of passion and transformation. Established in 2014 by Johnny and Deanne Cox, our journey is as unique as the bees we cherish.
Johnny’s fascination with bees began as a nine-year-old youngster, and since then, he has immersed himself in the captivating world of these industrious pollinators. From the careful attention to hive health to the artistry of crafting quality queen bees, Johnny’s expertise spans every facet of beekeeping. His lifelong dedication to these remarkable creatures forms the heart of Cox Bee Company.
On the flip side, Deanne, co-founder and the other half of this buzzing venture, had an unexpected revelation in 2014 herself. Despite a life-long irrational fear of bees, she found herself drawn into the enchanting world of apiculture alongside Johnny. It was a transformative moment that not only calmed her fear but ignited a shared passion for bees and their vital role in our ecosystem.
At Cox Bee Company, we go beyond providing queen bees, queen cells, nucs, and agricultural exemptions. Our commitment extends to a comprehensive breeding program dedicated to consistently improving our stock. We aim to breed a queen that is not only gentle, prolific, and a good honey producer but is also resistant to parasites and other diseases. In short, we strive to create a queen that embodies sustainability.
Our breeding program focuses on the Italian bee, carrying Cordovan gene markers. This genetic trait not only contributes to the warm golden color of our queens, but also has her free from the dark stripes. It’s also useful in determining if our queens are being mated to mostly our drones. The result is a visually stunning and resilient queen that stands as a testament to our dedication to quality.
Beginning in 2024, we are excited to announce the addition of instrumental insemination to our program. This innovative technique marks a new chapter in our commitment to producing exceptional queens, allowing us to eliminate some of the variables related to open-mated breeding.
Thank you for joining us at Cox Bee Company, where our story continues to evolve alongside our appreciation for the delicate dance between humans and bees. Embrace the wonders of nature with us, one queen at a time.
